Description

Maccabees is a 2 player card driven wargame that takes about 2-3 hours.

Will you as Judah Maccabee conduct an early and successful guerilla war against the superior Seleucid forces? Will you defeat Samarian Governor Apollonius and keep his sword as a symbol of vengeance? After the battle of Nahal El-Haramiah will fresh recruits flock to the Jewish cause? Will you again defeat Generals Nicanor and Gorgias at the Battle of Emmaus? Will you remove the Hellenizing High Priests Menelaus and Alcimus, and purify the Temple? Will you come to the aid of the Jewish citizens in Gilead, Transjordan, and Galilee? Will you also defeat the Edomites, march to the coast of the Medditerranean, and destroy the statues of the pagan gods in Ashdod? Will Hanukkah become a Jewish Holiday?

Will you as Antichus Epiphanes be forced to leave Judea in the hands of your Viceroy Lysias, as you march off to fight the Parthians? Will you place the Abomination of Desolation in the Holy Jewish Temple? Will your forces find the Judean Rebels and defeat them in detail? Will you win major battles at Beth-Zechariah and Adasa? Will Regent Phillip rebel against your command and enter Antioch? Can you succeed where your historical counterpart failed? What will be the fate of Jerusalem? A unique game. The Jews start as a guerilla force but grow in strength with each hit and run victory. It is kinda like the American Revolutionary War in that the Brits are stronger and the Americans must choose their battles. Likewise, the Greeks are strongest and the Jews are weaker. Some key cards can really influence the outcome of some important battles. I also like the historical figures, counters, and game flow.
